First Couple: no to stem-cell research.

First Couple: no to stem-cell research. That’s “compassionate conservatism” for you — light on the compassion, heavy on the neoconservatism.

People with adjustable rate mortgages hold their breath as Greenspan readies to push interest rates up.

People with adjustable rate mortgages hold their breath as Greenspan readies to push interest rates up. With the amount of refinancing that has been going on for the past few years, this is sure to have a non-negligible effect on the economy.

America’s new war on journalism.

America’s new war on journalism. It’s said that this sort of thing describes an America which is increasingly unsafe for and hostile to foreigners. It’s hard to disagree with that assessment.

George W. Bush, the flip-flopper-in-chief.

George W. Bush, the flip-flopper-in-chief. The man changes his mind more often than he changes shirts! Personally I find it funny that the man who claimed that the US Army “shouldn’t be involved in nation-building” accuses John Kerry of wavering on the issues, but then I don’t work for Fox News.

John Dean’s FindLaw column on President Bush’s decision to talk to a lawyer about the Valerie Plame case.

John Dean’s FindLaw column on President Bush’s decision to talk to a lawyer about the Valerie Plame case. Things are not likely to be as innocuous as the White House would like to have you believe. Does the President think he might be “fingered” in the investigation?

Is George W. Bush coming apart at the seams?

Is George W. Bush coming apart at the seams? Perhaps Washington is enjoying a bit of “Nixon 1972” nostalgia. Who’s heading the Committee to Re-Elect the President (CREEP) this time around?

Another day, another resignation of a top CIA official.

Another day, another resignation of a top CIA official. Time to look for “CIA” on Monster and HotJobs!

Did an Al-Qaeda terrorist actually warn the FBI of the 9/11 plot only to be turned away?

Did an Al-Qaeda terrorist actually warn the FBI of the 9/11 plot only to be turned away? One begins to wonder how many warnings were skipped over.

At least we now know why the President called a lawyer!

At least we now know why the President called a lawyer! Apparently he needed the lawyer’s advice as to whether he was going to need the lawyer’s advice or not, which is interesting in itself. At least we know who the lawyer is now, a man from the firm that defended Richard Secord in the Iran-Contra hearings… nice to see that Republicans of dubious ethics are, if nothing else, loyal on the long term.

George W. Bush has retained legal counsel in connection with the grand jury investigation into the ‘outing’ of undercover CIA agent Valerie Plame.

George W. Bush has retained legal counsel in connection with the grand jury investigation into the ‘outing’ of undercover CIA agent Valerie Plame. Now, why would the President want to do a thing like that? Well, for one thing, this is an investigation into criminal activity, and might even involve the PATRIOT act. We know that the leak was obviously committed by someone who had access to the identities of undercover CIA agents. It is also clear that this “outing” was done in the context of political revenge against Ms. Plame’s husband, Ambassador Joseph Wilson, for making statements which were true but politically embarassing to the White House. The plot gets thicker and thicker.
